Gertie’s Garden, November 2018

Gertie’s Garden, November 2018

After some TLC from Hermione at the end of October, Gertie’s Garden went zinging quietly into November.

Pumpkin was hung up with the bird feeders, which it didn’t like except when visited by the Fairy Teds [that’s in another Tale] …..

Two of the Squirrel Family, at least five in all, came in and fought for the best sunflower seeds which remained after their earlier raids! … [ I had hung up the last flower seed head with the bird feeders ]… then went to the fat balls.

A few of the Geraniums from October continued to flower, but by the end of the month were beginning to fade out, but only beginning to.

Squirrels grew fatter and fatter!

Trees viewed from the balcony, glowed golden, then gradually, over the days and weeks, shed their leaves, as it grew colder, wetter and windier.

In GG the Blackberry Vine had a last fling, dressed in gold …..

… Sunsets took on a fleetingly fanciful quality, viewed in the reflection of the Glassroom windows …..

… After October’s Hunters’ Moon, November’s Full moon was waxing nicely for the Beaver Moon, but on the actual date the sky had filled with cloud. This was the moon on November 21st.

Destructive secret visitor/s dug out holes in two large tree trunks with pots and a little garden on their tops, as well as holes under the Garden Shed … I have retrieved my ‘humane trap’ but no luck thus far!

The Front Garden Room remains filled with soft colours on the Cherry leaves, Blueberry leaves and Nasturtium flowers.

These glorious colours in Front and Back Garden Rooms were on the eleventh day of the eleventh month of this year.

After a little furtle around the massive plant that grew from a potato, originally stuck with rose stems to root them, I found this large spud with several others: enough for mash for two!

Starlings, Pigeons, Goldfinches, various Titmice and Robin have continued their daily visits, vying for the best treats and getting fatter in the shortening days; and Robin twizzles his greeting whenever I go into GG.

Happy St. Andrew’s Day!

Tremendous photographs of your well-loved and well-cared for patch, Anne. It must have been so lovely to have had Hermione working beside you – I’ve never known the pleasure of sharing my garden with someone I really care about – and I hope at some point she will know that pleasure too.
