Sunshine & Shadows.
Sunshine & Shadows.
The past weeks of April, 2020 have been full of sunshine and plants in Gertie’s Garden have been lifting their leaves and petals upwards, as though glorying in the warmth and brightness. Spring has been more like Summer for the amount of colour everywhere; and that is just in GG. During this ghastly period of ‘Lockdown’, because of a World pandemic, I have seen in close-up, only the flowers in G.G. and have missed the fields of snowy Cow Parsley in the Nature Park, and the flags in the lakes and ponds elsewhere; not to mention other front gardens in the surrounding streets. It has meant lots of garden watering, but it’s worth the effort to have witnessed the light filtering through fresh, bright leaves and petals, and casting picturesque shadows on paths and walls.
We have been munching a little of the above in our salads. It has a lemony flavour; quite sharp.
Sitting on the bench or in the Arbour has been a pleasure.
The Arbour now has a halo of Clematis Montana which scents the air with a sweet Vanilla essence, and peering through we see shadows on the house wall.
The cloches for the lettuce protected the plants from the sun, but not from the slugs, so that was a no-go!
Shadows, however took on a fantasy feel, painting shapes on the paths …
… and walls.
… and behind, the gate.
April garden sunlight was a delight for many days and weeks
..
… and in the enforced ‘Social Lockdown’ sunny GG was a pleasant place to sit and look.
Anne: end of Sunny April, and all hail to rainy May!! … 2020
