As ever, anything about bees is fascinating to me … and did you see the article on TV yesterday about a newly re-discovered giant bee that has a wingspan of 2 and a half inches ? :shout:
Also, I think it’s amazing that someone has managed to…[Read more]

Morning,👍 With the amount of katkins on the hazel trees this year,It’s going to be a good year for nuts.

    • Hi Allan :high-five: … yes there are lots aren’t there :good: :-) the Hazel bush is vying with the Ribe for dominance in the hedgerow bordering GG and it’s lovely to see the birds dancing about in the catkins … not to mention the squirrels  HASD :rose:
      • There are indeed a lot of catkins on the trees round here, but it is not them which produce the nuts, it is the tiny (like 1mm across)red female flowers which are along the branches from the male catkins. Looking at our bushes there are actually very few flowers on them. Not looked at the ones along the road.

        • :good: Yes Eric, I haven’t noticed any red flowers yet, but it’ good to have the pollinators ready for when they come … the catkins are very pretty. We had nuts last year… all over the other side of the hedge of course! HAGE :rose:

morning all, a foggy start today so hopefully a sign for a warm day, usual day though meals on wheels then shopping but hopefully sunshine for my walk with Alfie, hens will enjoy the sunshine too :good:
    HAGD all :-)

  • Morning all, the mist is clearing as the sun is rising, so will make the drive to the supermarket a lot safer. Shopping this morning. Headache has gone and no sign of it this morning :good:
HALD all, shall catch up later :rose:

  • Morning clickers :-) had a short walk and saw the barn owl flying along the ditch :good: Beautiful bird! Have nearly finished emptying the biggest of the raised beds on the concrete area and revamped the herb garden (in the old shower tray). I don’t use all the herbs I plant as I just like to have them in flower for the bees. My rosemary is in…[Read more]

    • Morning Jane. Your walk sounds good, I am very envious of your barn owl…..if I wasn’t so lazy I could go out early and perhaps see one for myself  There was a thrush singing away somewhere nearby when I put the bird food out. I don’t use half my herbs either but, like you, grow them for the bees. I just hope the weather doesn’t turn…[Read more]

    • I should love to see a barn owl Jane, and yes, one of my Rosemary shrubs has been blooming lovely for over a month! … but those Buff-tailed beeblebums like the Lonicera blossoms … love the way that they wriggle into them :rose:

Morning clickers. It was a beautiful, very warm sunny day yesterday when we left Church Stretton. We stopped in Ludlow for a look round the shops, a walk down to the river and round the base of the castle and lunch. We saw one woman sunbathing on a seat with a strappy sun top on  The cats were pleased to see us. Caught up on Endeavour last…[Read more]

    • Morning Cilla :-) Glad you had a good time :good: Yep, it’s going to be a lovely day and we can all play out today  Just been for a walk – sea mist but lifting already. Enjoy :-) the day

    • Ooh Cilla … seed sowing … am so tempted to start in GG, but I feel that the ground is still too cool on Blue hill. The low winter sun shines in for such a short time as it goes around the block! Soon tho’ enjoy the day, and the furry friends :good: :rose:

Nightnight Everybodypeops … I’m pooped  :sleepy: :sleepy: :rose:

  • Isn’t it lovely, how despite the bony, leafless deciduous winter trees, [ which I do love nevertheless] there are green, green evergreens to brighten even a Winter Scene! :rose:

  • Winter sunshine over the Long Mynd, Shropshire.

Afternoon all, have had a glorious 3/4 hours in the garden, clearing the rest of the greenhouse pots/bags onto the raised beds and sorting them for the new season. Have been watching the PSB closely for the last few days and gathered enough to accompany tonights chicken and pasta dinner, yum. The frogs have been busy in the pond as well. ;-) If…

    • What a prince

    • Love the spawn, Karen :good: I’ll be checking my pond daily now and tell any frogs listening that yours are at it  Excellent on the gardening! Hasn’t it been a brilliant day? We’ve got chicken too with homegrown rosemary ;-) Have a fab evening :rose:

    • Looks like your mojo was waiting for you near the pond Karen ;-) You had a lovely afternoon and I spotted froggie. My pond is a really really horrible sludgy brown colour :-(

    • Must be all the mild weather has encouraged them. ;-) Been a great day, but a cool wind here, I managed to find some lemon thyme as well. :good: Have a good evening yourself. :rose:

    • Oh just look at it looking at you and grinning  !!! :clover: :rose:

    • Our pond really needs clearing out a bit Cilla, as it has got very overgrown, but I’m too late now. ;-) Have you lots of oxygenators in yours?

    • It feels so good to be back in the garden, seeing things begining to grow :good: :good:
We had chicken for dinner with homegrown parsnips and potatoes, plus asparagus from Aldi!
:good: on the frogs and frog spawn, not many slugs in your garden hopefully :good:
      HAGE :clover:

    • Felt great Lynn, not many slugs? You must be joking.

    • Oh perhaps the frogs are vegetarians

    • It is becoming more fashionable ;-) :rose:

    • I did have Karen but can’t see any at the moment. It is so cold with next door’s conifer shading any sun at this time of year that we never get any spawn……but we still get frogs

    • That is such a shame Cilla, but if you have frogs they must be spawning somewhere! ;-)

Evening all, Went to Drago mills today,Was very disappointed,Not as good as the one down south, Been a beautiful day though, :good:

    • Afters Al, I’m sure I should know but what is “Drago Mills”? Been a great day here too, but a very cool breeze.

      • Hi Al :-) Which one did you go to? There’s one in either Devon or Cornwall that we used to go to – can’t remember where exactly. Karen, it’s a huge bargain warehouse place – sells everything and of course you can come out with stuff you don’t want just because of the price if you’re not careful ;-)

    • Did you not find anything at all Allan? :disappointed: :rose:

      • Looking at the fishing rods,But managed to pull myself away. There’s one down by Falmouth, Didn’t appeal too me this one in Merthyr Tydfil, ;-)

  • A glorious afternoon here in Norfolk, have been cutting back the last few the perrianal’s, lots of them showing new growth, so pleased to find a peony showing signs of new growth at the base along with the hollyhocks, clematis, verbena, lots of tulip leaves and very small signs of life on the fuschias :good: :good: we even ate our lunch outside.…[Read more]

    • Good luck on the headache disappearance Lynn … lunch outside sounds very healthy :good: bravo!! :-) Have got my internet connection back now … felt quite bereft without it!!

    • Afters Lynn and Anne, lovely day here too Lynn, but a very cool breeze. Have had a great 3-4 hours in the garden, which felt good, but had to come in for coffee and warm up. ;-) Hope your head improves quickly. :good:

    • Afternoon Lynn and Anne :-) hope you’ve cleared your headache Lynn :rose: Have a lovely evening :-)
