I went into the fruit cage to investigate some holes that had appeared on a few of the Tenderstem broccoli plants – and discovered to my horror, that plants which I confidently thought were doing really well, are absolutely infested with aphids. The holes were down to a few caterpillars which are now dead – but how best to deal with the aphids? I’ve never really been bothered by them before, except on my purple hellebore – and I just kept squishing them until they gave up on it as a host plant. But there are far too many on all the brassica plants for that kind of treatment. I have a vague memory that they suffocate if sprayed with an oily liquid – please help!!!!
