    So sorry for your loss.

I reckon that people’s gardens are going to be tidier than ever before. Every one seems to be out in them round here.
Two more stumps out and the next tree cut back. Shattered now so we have stopped. May do a little more after dinner.
Keep up the hand washing.

    • Hi Eric. Yes, not a lot else for them to do. I had an hour outside this afternoon.

Managed to cut two more slices off the stump with a new chain saw blade. That made it light enough for us to move out of the hole. We are not going to try to move it over to the other side of the drive with the rest of the stuff. It can hide behind the garden seat until our strong grandsons visit.

Even with a new blade in the saw it would not cut through the wood. For some reason it is a very solid conifer.

  • Owdboggy posted an update 1 week, 2 days ago

This is the stump in question. Got to find a way of moving it.
    • Ooch! Good luck Eric :good: Not in a place where you could drag it out hooked to a vehicle is it? :excruciating: :rose:

    • Chain saw with an old chain in Eric,

    • Good luck

    • Watch your back Eric :-)

    • Iv’e cut many a root out Eric,Never had a problem,I use the roots for wood turning.I always use an old chain though, because you are bound to hit a stone.Instead of cutting through the thick part,Lop off the individual roots.Mainly the tap root.

    • Good morning Allan :-) Talking of wood turning, I wondered if you were taking this enforced isolation as an opportunity to do some? :rose:

Hallo Allan, I know the feeling! It’s chaos in my Den as I try to fit in more Teds and organise my papers etc etc! Good luck with it all…for both of us if I may? ;-) :rose:

Never been known! This stump is HEAVY though, so it may have to be cut up where it is, if I can.

    • Good luck with that Eric … Hope you are keeping written notes of all this for the next story! :-) :good: :rose:

We have managed to loosen the big stump, but it is too hard for my chain saw to cut up. Problem moving it, but it will have to wait until tomorrow when we feel a bit fitter. It had to come out as it was in the way of the new fence and it was just beginning to die form a fungal attack which killed the next tree along.
    Only 10 more to go!

  • Owdboggy posted an update 1 week, 3 days ago

Despite the very cold wind we got another three stumps out without too much difficulty.
Got to find something to do at present.

  • I too have used it and as said it is bigger granules than the horticultural stuff, but it does the same job. Take care to water the material before using as the dust is very unpleasant.

Slowly and hard work. We did manage to get out 3 stumps today. They need removing as there is masses of bindweed root underneath them. Nice thing is that the chain saw will actually cut the roots so we can push the stumps over to get them out. Only about 20 more to go!

Sounds like everyone is alive and kicking. Good to hear it. We are following the advice and getting on with the gardening. Weather is very helpful in that respect.

    • :good: Jolly Good, :-) and the longer days and brighter evenings are something I am looking forward too :-) :rose:

    • Evening Eric, the decent weather is a godsend, we’ve been out in the garden most of the day. :good: How is the hedge clearing coming on?

Sounds like most folks are surviving. We are carrying on with the hedge removal, but the fence people probably will not be able to put up the fence for a while.
    Keep your chins up!

    • Afternoon Eric, it’s good to have something to do isn’t it. Good luck with the rest of the hedge removal. :good:

Managed to bring down a very dead conifer despite stupidly standing on my chain saw and breaking the handle. I think I have managed to mend it for the moment. If not then £100 for a new one. Need it as there are dozens of conifers to fell along the back of the garden where we hope to have a new fence.

Supposed to be a dry sunny day today, so why is the cloud cover so heavy?
    Also very cold.
Recycling place was crowded this morning too. Lidl full, but had good supplies of everything we needed.
If it actually stays dry then it is time to begin removing the Leylandii hedge at the back of the garden.

Know what you mean about the dust. We are still cleaning up after the new windows, plastering, electrical, plumbing work we have had done over the last year.

    • Hi Jenn and Eric. It is all a bit of a nightmare but seems to have brought a lot of people together via these support networks. Take care both of you. We are still walking, as are a lot of people, but staying distanced. Just trying to keep as fit as possible in case Covid 19 strikes.

Boss registered with Morrisons last night for delivery. No point as they have hardly anything in stock to deliver.
Having lived for so long in an isolated place, we have always kept a good stock of non-perishables in the cupboards. It is fresh stuff which we may need to go looking for.
Neighbour manages a Care Home and he was saying that they…[Read more]

Cold, sunless and damp again. Will it ever stop raining?
Hope everyone is keeping fit and well. All stocked up for a long siege?

    • Good morning Eric :-) Not really  Am hoping for an on-line delivery sometime, and getting inventive in the meantime  Have a good day :good: :rose:

      • Morning Eric, chance would be a fine thing,, shelves are empty in our supermarkets!!! So glad we have veg &fruit in the garden, plus some in the freezer. Might get some odd combination’s in the coming weeks, but we won’t go hungry. Enjoy your day💐🐝

    • Morning Eric. Brightening up here, at least. I still have some of my Brexit cupboard so not too bad here

      Nice one Eric, :good:

      • I made a comment, to the effect that this thread was becoming a little gem, but I can’t find it on this computer. It’s still on my lap top. I really don’t get it…and laugh! I have an arrangement this week where one of my friends is gonna help me to get my head around using my I-phone more, whilst I help her with emailing on the…[Read more]

Raining again. Not heavy but unpleasant. Damaged a tendon in my right hand thumb which is proving painful and an obstacle to doing much even though I am left handed.
Hope it is dry where ever you are.

    • Sorry to hear about your thumb tendon Eric … that is so painful and debilitating. Good luck with getting around it, as you must :good: :-) :rose:
