All colours and number of spots for us. No flutterbyes, but a lot of Queen wasps looking for places to hibernate.

Is everyone else getting the huge numbers of Ladybirds, like we are?
    :-)

    • Hello Eric :-) we’ve had mega numbers of 7-spots all summer and just today we have Harlequins appearing. They’re no problem :-)

      • Evening Eric, yes lots on Monday, there are a lot less now, we had a lot collected in the corners of the windows!!! They are now outside!!

    • Yip, same here Eric, lots of Ladybirds, and we’ve had a lot of Butterflies as well. Even saw 2 Peacock B’flies today. :good:

Yep lots of ladybirds too for us in the south :good: , and also those dreaded spiders that seem to dash out all of a sudden in the house  , needless to say they are quickly caught and deposited out in the garden by me!!!! :dunno: :-)

hope everyone is having a good weekend. Cold but sunny ish here. Wind is getting up though. Been pickingAshemead’s Kernel apples. A lot are very poor with worm holes and damage where they have rubbed against the bark with the string wind we had last week. Shame, they are a really nice, good keeper.
Started emptying the compost heap on to the Veg…[Read more]

Pruning the Queen Cox apple tree, I found 4 or 5 pounds of really nice apples which I had missed when I stripped the tree last week. A very nice surprise. I cannot think of anything better than an apple picked from the garden and eaten straight away. (That is if you like apples!).

We have a few of them, including a white berried one. Even got them grown from seed as a future hedge.

    • Wow! I have always loved Spindle Berries but don’t think I have ever seen a white-berried one Eric :rose:

Took a load of stuff to the Re-cycling yard and met a chap who was off loading logs in one of the bays. He kindly loaded them into my car instead.
Then we had a knock on the door. “Cheeky. I know” said the Man “But can we do a House viewing?2 So we showed him round. As with everyone, he loved the garden, but it is probably too big for him. Sad.

    • Well you never know Eric … he might know someone else who may be interested , and pass on the details…. :fingers-crossed: :rose:

Chips and Ice cream day and a nice walk at Parkgate on the Wirral. Tiring though. Reached 21c. as well.

I would like a magic wand which sent the litter to the bed of the person who dropped it. The stretch of lane between us and the main road is only clean because I keep it that way.

    • :-( Dom frequently cleans around ours too Eric … we have messy dustmen and foxes , as well as some people who aren’t always very good at clearing up for whatever reason  ‘orrid ennit :bad:

Definitely on the cool side this morning, despite the blue sky. Managed to dismantle the old chest freezer and take it to the re-cycling yard. Bit of a tight fit into the car though.
Apple picking again this afternoon I think. Unless I get the hedge cutters out and do the Berberis. Decisions, decisions!

Sunshine and heavy showers so far. Started moving the clay pots stuff into the tunnel. We are due for frost before long and the pots often explode then. So far only found 2 pots where the contents have not survived, but there are many more to go. Not going to replace anything either.

Shopping on a Sunday! Tut. When I was a child we were not even allowed to listen to the radio on a Sunday. It was Church, Sunday School, and Evening Service for us.

    • Same here Eric …. what a relief when Sunday shopping was allowed and working Mums and Dads could catch up on the weekend! It’s actually not a day I prefer for shopping now … too crowded everywhere. :rose:

    C.p.d is a Heritage apple.
    As is Catshead.
Rain stopped but it is very wet out there.
    Enjoy your evening.

    • Thank you, and yes, look up Heritage apples and you get a wealth of info. I have often wondered what our [ now defunct] apple tree is in Normandy. It had big, rosy apples which were as good for cooking as for eating raw, but it was already very old when we inherited it.
You have a good evening too Eric :good: :rose:

Picked more apples before the rain. Court Pendu Plat this time. More of them than I had thought, about30 kilos so far. Still lots of Catshead up the tree as well. Crown Gold and Ashmeads are close to needing picking too.
    Raining now.

    • Hi Eric :high-five: I see that you like apples … French ones too  Our :light-rain: has stopped for the time being … quick snack after making the beds and then outside again :good: HAGA :rose:

Sad indeed. Children are supposed to bury parents, not the other way round.

  • Owdboggy posted an update 3 weeks, 6 days ago

Boy is it raining. Did manage to get my walk this morning before the rain and then picked about40 kilos of Cat’s Head apples before the rain began. there must have been 60 kilos of them on the floor. Sadly they are no use as the skin is very soft and they bruise very easily and rot where they bruise. You have to be very gentle picking them as you…[Read more]

Very windy day. Lot of the apples which were not supposed to be ripe enough to pick have fallen, very annoying, but we have no way of storing them for the moment.
Not actually do any gardening today. Took the car in for its MOT and they had had a power cut so had to wait an hour and three quarters for it to be done. Passed ok.
    :good:

    • Goodness, what a wait Eric! Good job it passed ;-) :rose:

    • Same problem here with apples Eric, lots down in the wind, but I’ll stew the cookers and some of the eaters and freeze them, hopefully will manage to store and then eat the rest. A long wait but at least the car got through its MOT. :good:

Wind has dropped. Quiet evening for us.

  • Owdboggy posted a new activity comment 4 weeks ago

Very windy here. Lots of leaves blown off the trees. Hard walking back from my walk. Hope everyone further north is safe and well

    • Hi Eric :high-five:
We went for a walk this morning and it was very blowy, so quite noisy, but pleasantly so in the open area of the wild park :good:
Hope you have a good evening :rose:

Last couple of hours it has been really bad. Howling gale and torrential rain. Seems to have died down now though. Odd, Jemma, the smallest of our cats was sat by the back door step, in the rain. She would not come in though. Strange animule.

    • Ctas are so curious Eric…I love them all, even the unfriendly ***s that come to GG to use the soft earth I’ve prepared for my plants! Anyone would think I’d prepared it just for all the neighbourhood cats! :excruciating: :shout:  :rose:
