Lovely sight. We had a Cattle egret on the back fence the other day. I did get a poor picture of it for confirmation.

Got my walk this morning in bright sunshine. But now it is blowing a gale and the sky is as black as it gets. The rain it is a raining.
Hope the soaking does not cause any lasting problems.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

It is really raining here. No walk for me the lane will almost certainly be flooded where it is lower than the surrounding fields. It does not last long, but does get deeper than my walking boots can handle. Means the pig will have to go without her daily apples until the rain stops and the puddles drains. The rest of the firewood will have to…[Read more]

I think he might miss me. I feed his pigs with our unusable apples every day which saves him money. He did sell us a sheep last week which is now in the freezer and should last us a couple of years. £50 for 15 kilos of mutton is not bad going. Beautiful tasting stuff too.

    Cold and sunny today.
Did manage to drive down the lane and collect all the broken branches which the Farmer had left by the road side for us. He takes the big logs, but leaves the ‘brash’ for me to clear. Happy with that as it seasons quicker than the big stuff.
Hope the next week of wet and windy stuff does not impinge too much on peoples lives.

It’s lovely to have your farming neighbour working with you to provide wood Eric … Dare I ask if you might miss him if you move? :rose:

So much for it being a sunny day. It is raining hard with huge drops. At least we did manage to get the wood cut up and stored before it really began. Forecast for the rest of the month is not good. the fields round us are beginning to look very soggy indeed.

  • Owdboggy posted a new activity comment 1 week, 4 days ago

Yes, but a lot of these branches are dead and have seasoned on the tree before falling off. We are actullay collecting it for future use, hopefully not even for us if we sell.

Son in Law could make bowls on his lathe, but you have to wait for the wood to ‘season’ before using it for turning like that.

    • Oh Eric! :shout:

Yes , seriously, I do know that wood needs to be seasoned to use it, but that applies to burning it too doesn’t it?… wouldn’t green wood just smoke a lot?

    Burning.
I was so good at Woodwork and Metalwork at School that I was the first boy ever allowed to drop both of them at O’Level. One or other was compulsory. Shows what I was like, I turned on the lathe and the blade flew off across the room. I had not even touched anything except the On/Off Switch.
The teachers were seen dancing round the…[Read more]

Wet and windy. Internet cuts out when the rain interferes with the Satellite signal.
Hope Storm Diana is not having too much of an impact on folks.
It is an ill wind……Some very big branches down on trees along the lane. Farmer has cut and taken the logs, but he has left the ‘brash’. Great as much of it is in 2 to 3 inch diameter logs which are…[Read more]

I often wonder whether Allan could make oak bowls from fallen logs too … is yours for the lathe or for fires? :rose:

Blooming cold, grey and not gardening weather. Did try, but my hands were too cold to feel anything.
Hope everyone is fit and well and so on.

I have gloves like those already and I wear Surgical gloves to garden in. (Keeps my beautiful hands clean and soft!). Makes no difference, the arthritis still hurts, even in my full blown thermal ones. Mind heat has the same effect too!. Cannot win.

    • I now wear the plastic gloves too Eric, but it just keeps the ‘dirt’ off my hands as these days we have regular visits from furry neighbours who are not as clean as their reputation would suggest!! HAGD :rose:

Still not ignoring everyone, but once again I am not getting the Post option when I come in. Very frustrating.
Hope the cooler weather is not affecting anyone too much. Makes gardening a bit harder and my hands really suffer in the cold.

    • Have been wearing these simple gloves indoors Eric. They are comfy and keep my hands and wrists warm when typing!! Bought them years ago, but they’d be very easy to make up. :good: :rose:
      • … you could even use an old odd sock cut to fit :good: :rose:

        • In the fishing shops they sell gloves with fold back finger tips with Velcro,

Sorry not to have been on for a few days, but this site does not seem to like me. I can type a message, but then the Post Update box does not appear. It has this time.
Hope everyone had a good Bonfire Night with no animals or people terrorised.
Very quiet here, we are too far from the usual display places for the noise to be really intrusive.

Hello Eric, I hope you feel better soon. It was a horrendous firework wekend with two traumatised cats and you may have read that there was a huge fire at the old Nottingham cattle market deliberately started with fireworks which destroyed several businesses :-(

        • Hi Eric….Poppydogmy border has gone totally deaf so for once the fireworks didn’t bother her. But I can not understand why they don’t sell silent fireworks only!!! Also we are constantly told about air pollution and yet fireworks are ok according to the government and the the people that make money from them ..grrrrrrrrr dont get me tarted.…[Read more]

Blue skies, but a cold wind. Shovelling sh.er compost again. Boss is mowing the lawns.
Hope it stays nice for you.

    • Hi Eric…it’s clouded over now and very cold. Just back from a mini shopping spree … Dom wanted a ‘goody’ from Aldi, so I got some naughty-but-nice things to munch at Hallowe’en with youngest Granddaughter who likes chocolate! Am hoping that she will cook with me when she comes…she’s a good cake cook ;-)
Hope you are now indoors enjoying a c…[Read more]

Started turning No.3 into No.2. Stopped when the rat jumped out and ran away……both of us!

    • I have just been out for some sage with supper, and found that BOTH my tree stups have been hollowed out. Will have to clear the tops tomorrow, as they will doubtless collapse! Can rats do that much damage? :shout: I’ll put up photos tomorrow. :rose:

Morning everyone. You all seem very busy today. Hope the day goes well for everyone.
I have been shovelling sh…er compost from Bin No2 into Bin No1. to finish off decomposing. Sad in a way in that with any luck, it will be for someone else to use. Good stuff though, well rotted already.
