I am trying some in large pots this year the ones I have chosen to try are Chantenay Red Cored because they seem short.

What a good idea the long handle dustpan was by dandylion, going on the hunt for one, I found a rake with wide plastic tines which makes raking up leaves so easy,

Good morning yes a bad night sleep and heavy heart this morning. Very cold and a frost but some shrubs are early so they will be held back a bit my japanese quince is in full flower already, Need to find a winter clematis to go on the fence nearby as it must be suitable.

    • Morning Tubs. I hope you find a nice winter clem, I’m sure there are quite a few nowadays. Enjoy your day :-)

    • Morning Tubs :-) I’ve had a Jingle Bells clematis for several years but I’ve only seen one flower on it. I wouldn’t recommend it if there’s a big choice as Cilla expects :-)

I have shred tears on the sad news about Sheila, A lovely lady who’s humour kept me going through dark times of my own, when I was only a guest looking in. My thoughts are with her family ,She will be missed so much.

Like the sound of Thinking Fast and Slow , Books are my guilty pleasure now, I like the way Reeves gets to the bottom of things ,the last programme in Med series was an eye opener about our veg in Spain and plastic.

What are you reading at the moment? I have ordered Simon Reeves Step By Step: The Life in My Journeys. I love his TV programmes

    • Hello Tubs :-) just finished an old Morse book (Colin Dexter), The Remorseful Day. Nearly finished Thinking Fast and Slow (Daniel Kahneman). I liked Simon Reeves when he first started but like many others, his programmes are rather formulaic now but nonetheless interesting.

I put a layer of fleece in bottom of pots to stop the darn weevil getting in that way. When my Dad died I bought some pots from his garden not knowing the weevil was in them until too late so 20 year battle with them.

My April camellia has three flowers in bloom already its over 20 years old in a very large pot and about 10 ft by 6ft I planted it low and feed it with organic teabags which decompose. I find the vine weevils do not seem to get through to those in pots that have a layer of bags.

    • That sounds lovely Tubs and I like the sound of organic teabags

Good Morning. bought a tablet yesterday will be able to download books from the library when I get my head around how to use it!! My few packets of veg seeds have arrived. I have not used peat compost for years but last year bought Jacks Magic which I think has some peat in it but it was so good, for my veg in pots

    • Good morning Tubs. I love my tablet which is so portable and means I can use it in bed, with a cuppa, as now. My vet and vet nurse were only, yesterday, trying to persuade me to use it to download books but I prefer proper books. I can see that downloading them would be very useful for you. I know nothing about the techie side but, apparently,…[Read more]
