Hi Karen :-) I told OH about the problems I’ve been having just after clicking about my Notepad escapades above and he had a look. You’re right about it being about either http or https, he thinks this should help: Mixed content

I know what to do when I can’t see the photos now but I expect you want to do a fix, if possible :rose:

Hi Jane, many thanks for that and yes, I think it is the mixed content that is causing the problem. However the site is built in wordpress, which Duncan mostly did, then members add content and the security cert is through cloudflare, so I’m not exactly sure who/where/what is changing things. Actually I’m not sure I want to know either. Sometimes links take me to an http page, and then the same link can take me to an https page – my head hurts. :silly: :disappointed:

I put this in clicks earlier when I should have put it here

Can see all yours V V now but cannot see NT today in the garden https://gardenclickers.co.uk/2019/09/22/the-garden-today/
One the left of this is a green looking padlock without the yellow bit which is on this page

The difference as I see it is the yellow bit on padlock is missing on the ones I cannot see.

To possibly help the others, something else I discovered is that some browsers show a broken link icon in a frame when no photo is visible (it did with OH, who uses Linux and Firefox). A right click in the square opens the photo on a different page. Chrome doesn’t do this for me and the cursor just stays as an ‘arrow’. However, Edge has about 1 line’s worth of changing the arrow cursor to a ‘hand’, which allows a right click. Hope this isn’t complete gobbledygook!

Aye, those both make sense to me girls, so thank you, that is helpful. Green padlock = secure page with full encryption, a gray padlock with a yellow triangle or a red line through it (broken padlock) means the page is only partially encrypted. These will be the mixed content ones Jane. @northernteacher They contain the content uploaded from members, which are automatically fed into the page, but the photos also go through an auto “resize”. So I think it may be that we need to change some of the coding tags that are attached to the photos. Ummmmmmm, scratching my head, as I haven’t access to that, I don’t think, so will need to try and get hold of Duncan. Will update here when I have more info. :good:

Much happier now that I have a handle on what is likely to be causing the problem Jane, so just a lot of possible causes to wade through. It’s the ones where you haven’t a baldy notion where the problem might be, that are a nightmare. ;-)

Hi Karen … re photo resizing etc, following your earlier comment, the instructions for sizing photos when uploading a blog actually changed anyway, some time ago. There is slightly less choice now. I assumed it was to reduce the difficulty of up loading large photos to the site. … :clover: :rose:

The site software resizes images when you upload them and before they are saved into the media library Anne. That way the storage of large files isn’t an issue either. So any change to the size of images you subsequently make for your blog only impacts the page size, bandwidth and load speed of your blog. Have to admit I didn’t notice any change in the blog media selection Anne, what changed?

I seem to remember a bigger range of sizes Karen … but it’s been a while and I can’t remember exactly. I’ll check it out when I load up the September Diary next week :clover: :rose:
