Thought I would add this wee Tip. Save Citrus Peel, wash of course, dry on Kitchen Paper, then Freeze. When making Marmalade with ‘MAMADE’ which I have used for many Years, take out the amount of Peel you feel you need, bring to the Boil, then turn down to a simmer, until Peel breaks down between your Fingers, then Slice thinly, and add. An…[Read more]

    • I save lemon, lime and grapefruit skins for the same purpose. I don’t use mamade to make my marmalade, but I just put the skins in the same way you do whilst I’m boiling my seville oranges. And then I continue making the marmalade as before. They do indeed add more flavour, and make a chunkier marmalade of course.

I also used up some leftover…[Read more]

Am sure am only going over old Ground with you Inventive lot, but had a large Bold Container, so took the Lid off, filled a couple of Holes in it with the thick Tape I use for Cardmaking. Bored Holes in the Bottom, with my trusty Skewer, kept for the purpose. Decoupaged the side which will be seen from the Window, looks really smart. Have a…[Read more]

Yes Roly, I have helped my Mother turn the big Mangle with the wooden Rollers, and we had an Outhouse where you lit the Boiler, it was always lovely and warm in there, the Water was used to Bath us in the old Tin Bath in front of the Fire. My Mother also boiled a few Xmas Puddings in it. Being the eldest, I had to light it early on, before…[Read more]

Great tip Tina, we don’t currently have a dryer but we are seriously considering one as we no longer have a conservatory to dry the clothes in, and there is nothing more irritating than wet washing in the middle of a room

I thought our tumble dryer had been made redundant but my O/H decided to dry a few clothes yesterday when she started the tumble dryer I looked out the kitchen window because about a mile away there’s some wind turbines and I swear those big blades started turning faster

I was told every complete turn is worth 30p a go we must have used quite a…[Read more]

I need a Tumble Dryer, being Disabled, can’t go outside in the Winter, and only having the use of one Arm, can’t hang it up anyway, but in the Summer, have a ‘Whirly’ at the top of the Ramp, and the Carer hangs it on that, I can manage to pull it off.

The Rayburn has a hanging rack over it, hooks on the wall near and a folding frame in front. I do use the G house to as a drying room if needed. All very low Tech and besides.. I just don’t produce and…[Read more]

I never wanted a tumble dryer but OH bought one this year as the washing on radiators was starting to cause mildew in some rooms. However I have found it a boon in all this wet weather but only ever put it on the shortest programme. We only ever put he dishwasher on the 30 minute programme too.
